What Is It?
The UK REACH regulation is the result of the core principles of the EU REACH regulation being retained by the UK government following the UK’s exit from the EU. As a result, there are many similarities between the two regulations but they are by no means the same. In order to support pre-existing supply chains and in recognition of the complexities around the ownership of (eco-)toxicological testing data, transitional provisions were introduced into UK REACH and still apply today.
While the full registration of all substances imported or manufactured at more than a tonne will be required in future, this is currently only required if the substance is not already registered under EU REACH. Therefore, if an EU REACH registration is in place then a simplified process known as a New Registration of Existing Substance (NRES) is currently available. This enables you to temporarily waive the requirement to provide (eco-)toxicological testing data and proceed with registering the substance at reduced cost while gaining access to the UK market.
If you intend to manufacture or import more than a tonne of a chemical substance into the UK then you are likely to need to register that substance with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). However, there are a number of compliance strategies available and Yordas can help you to find the most appropriate and effective route through this process.
